Planning PLANNING COMMISSION
A Municipal Planning Commission is an advisory board established by the local government - usually a borough, township, or city - under the authority of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (“MPC”) (Act 247 of 1968, as amended)

Membership
Planning commissions’ typically consist of 3 to 9 members, appointed by the governing body of the municipality. Members are usually volunteers, and cannot serve on the local elected body at the same time (with a few exceptions).

The Freemansburg Borough Planning Commission is comprised of five (5) members, all of whom were appointed by Borough Council.

Primary Responsibilities

Freemansburg's Planning Commissions advises Borough Council on a variety of planning-related matters, including the following:

Subdivision & Land Development Reviews
Review and make recommendations on proposed subdivision andland development plans (like new housing developments or commercial sites). Ensure developments follow Freemansburg’s Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (“SALDO”).

Comprehensive Plans
Help create and update the municipal comprehensive plan, a long - term policy guide for land use, housing, transportation, and community facilities.

Zoning Recommendations
Review and recommend updates or changes to the zoning ordinance and zoning map. The Planning Commission may be asked to review requests for zoning amendments or special exceptions.

Public Hearings & Community Input
The Planning Commission holds public meetings to gather input on proposed developments or planning documents.

Meeting Schedule
Freemansburg's Planning Commission convenes on the first Thursday of every month, on an as-needed basis.
